Platzi Raises 2.1 million USD

Mountain Nazca portfolio company Platzi has recently raised USD 2.1 million in a seed funding round. The education technology startup offers online professional skills courses in both Spanish and English. Platzi’s business idea is to help entrepreneurs in developing the skills they need to build and grow their own business idea. The startup caters to people who want to develop new professional skills, such as programming, design, marketing and finance.

To achieve this, the founders created a platform to deliver livestreamed classes in English and Spanish. The lecturers are all well-known industry leaders who teach the audience how to supercharge their own start-up, from building an initial user base to achieving “hockey stick” growth. Users can choose from a wide range and growing number of specific topics, including project and team management, SEO and SEM, the legal basics of launching a start-up, the meaning behind key clauses in term sheets and many more.

For USD 29 a month, or USD 299 annually, Platzi offers subscriptions to its array of live and on-demand video courses. While there is a rising number of well-funded companies offering online business courses, Platzi is definitely one of the most promising ones around. This is not only evident by the impressive seed funding round but also by the number of high profile investors. Investors in Platzi included Omidyar, 500 Startups, Mountain Nazca, Amasia Ventures and Y Combinator.
